I realize that the in and out of the bag motion is where scratches come from, I'm thinking the plastic zippers are much kinder to the finish. And hell yeah, a hard case can have a "tooth" on the male part of the buckle that can hurt a finish bad.

The finish is crazy thin, mine has a really worn spot just above the jack (where I put my thumb to pull out the chord). I don't mind dents to the body though, I'm more concerned about the neck.

Do you think guitar polish would harden the wood?

dont worry bro. in 30 years you wont want a perfect guitar anyways, that would just be weird. just be careful, and let it age. dont bang it around, but dont poo yourself when something little happens ya know? relax and enjoy it

[/quote]i got worn streaks, top and bottom of the neck, from like the 3rd fret to the 12th ..through the top finish..after almost 2 years of playing it..the neck will be blonde colored in another year..but you should see my strat after 12 years ..it happens to everything, but with the faded it happens MUCH quicker..

In 30 years my faded SG will look like complete crap, if it lasts 30 years which I doubt.

yeah i feel you on that one dude. i play mine pretty hard, and i take it on the road all the time. but... i dont really abuse it, so it will probably last me a good while. at least i hope! nothin feels better than a nice... old, familiar, broken in guitar.

Dings, dents and scratches will happen no matter HOW careful you are.

The finish on a Faded is VERY thin and I have noticed that it tends to show scratches more because
Gibson uses a VERY cheap Mahogany. I do believe it's Philippine Mahogany.
Honduras Mahogany is a Reddish Brown color while Philippine Mahogany is almost white. This way they can get away with calling it Mahogany

    Yeah, +1 on that.

I've got a faded LP doublecut, and my nails made little indentations in the wood when I was adjusting the bridge thumbwheels.

You just have to learn to live with it........or never play the guitar!

It's the sound that puts everything else into perspective. I absolutely love the sound. Total P90 heaven, ballsy with clarity from a guitar that doesn't break my back.
