I use it in the 0.5W setting 90% of the time and I can attest to the effectiveness. It's not marketing hyperbole - the thing really sounds and feels like an amp being pushed at gig volume but quiet enough to have a conversation over.
As good as it is out of the box, the firmware update certainly is an improvement. I agree, but I'd still suggest updating the firmware. It's not life altering, but it's a nice improvement. It doesn't feel like a soak, it feels like a three way light bulb. Instead of on, brighter, brightest; it's on, louder, loudest. Has anyone mentioned the "Standby" setting? Might as well call it "mute" if it weren't for "tradition".
Don't open that can of worms in here! No, really don't. It's a mute switch. Mislabeled perhaps, but it's a mute.
I'm going to GC this afternoon and see if they have it in stock ... just in case. I know ... I will not touch the subject in here It's a very useful feature in case you must interrupt your playing.
I didn't mean in "here", I mostly meant in general. You wanna see an argument, that'd be right up there with "helmets on a bicycle site".
I also own a Boss Katana 50. Perfect apartment amp. You can get all kinds of great tone and still play at a low volume that won't disturb anyone. I'll never buy an amp again that doesn't have some sort of power attenuator or power control again. Best innovation trend I've seen in new amps. The Roland Blues Cubes have the same sort of thing and they're great amps too...

Zzounds, AMS, and I forget the third one, are on my ish list. I bought a stand, a set of strings, and some picks from "AMS" them and each item came separately from from the different entities involved. The strings and picks were in their own excessively huge boxes with air pillows from different parts of the country. I'm talking CDW level stupid packaging for picks and strings. Then they play stupid when you ask them about it. Oh well.
