the access to all frets are easy. just the lower horn is of similar size to the upper. i own an epi special ve and an g400. the lower cuts are identical. check my avatar. it's a c.giant (older harley benton sg model) - g310 copy, with a deeper lower cut than the epi's!!! i promise to post some pics for comparison.

on the harley benton the neck is deeper than even a G-310 / VE...
ie. that 22nd fret looks so far away from the cutaway.

it's made even more obvious when u see how much space there is from pickguard to the horns on the HB.

so while the lower cuts may be identical, everything else - neck, pickguard, pickups etc - has been pushed deeper in.

I have returned two Gibson 2021 '61 reissue SGs to Thomann. Both were badly manufactured and the second one sounded dull. I checked out the Epiphone variant in a local shop yesterday. The manufacturing was perfect and the it sounded like the better of teh two Gibsons i have returned. The sustain was incredible and the pickup combination had the quack.
In short - just a marvelous guitar.
