Hey all, I have a question for you. Has anyone heard about Gibson jacking up the price of all their guitars in February 2007? I've recently talked to two dealers of two local guitar shops in my town, and they have said that Gibson will be raising the price up a few hundred bucks this February. They said that Gibson does this every five years of so. If anyone has anymore information on it, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

My dealer in Phoenix says he usually gets two price increases a year, and one of those usually coincides with NAAM because everybody waits until then to place orders.

He got three in 2005 because Hurricane Katrina caused wood availability issues.
    Uh huh.

Because they sound good and play nice.

    But they are too expensive.

Yeah, Katrina didn't wash with my dealer either.
Have you ever been to the Gulf Coast? The only damned tree anywhere near the coast is Pine with the occassional Magnolia.
Not exactly the most sought after tone woods... Go figure.

Obviously if they sound good and play nice, they certainly do not suck.

They suck because they charge way too much money.

Let me rephrase, Gibson's corporate policies and customer service suck. Their products do not. Happy?

Shocking. Prices going up, but I somehow doubt quality is.

It's kind of scary :?. I'm sure that guitar manufacturers in Korea and China are ringing they're hands when they hear that Gibson is raising they're prices.
A lot of first and second time buyers are will probably opt for the cheaper Asian guitars, whose quality has improved substantially over the past couple of years, than a $1000 to $2200 Gibson whose quality has been somewhat lacking over the same time period.
Gibson needs to make sure that they're products are worth the price of admission.
I hate to see American $$ going over seas. If Gibson can keep the sticker shock to manageable levels the more people like Agnes I mean ANGUS ;) can live they're dream and play some of the greatest guitars on the planet. :)
