image.jpg Hello guys! I just got this guitar, it sounds and plays great. It has schaller tulip-style tuners(I think they are called that), but it looks like there been some other tuners installed at some points. Does anyone here know what tuners came with the guitar when it was new?

    Cheers/Jonas

Nice axe, and welcome to the forum. It most likely came with some form of Kluson style tuners. If you can post a photo with the current tuners and the holes from the old tuners, we can give you a better guess. Cheers!

Gold gibson Kluson type tuners. At least that is what is on my 87.

Thanks a lot Sg John and Hammer looks like there has been maybe grover on this one! I'll keep the ones that are on now, works great! Thanks for the help. The frets are very low, but I'm getting used to it. Makes me play a bit different compared to other guitars, inspiring !

    Have a great weekend!!

    Cheers!

Those look like Schaller copies of Kluson Deluxe tuners. I'd keep them on there. They're a very good upgrade, and are probably using the original mounting holes. Cheers!

Agreed. The only difference in appearance is the Schallers are double ring while the Gibbos are single ring, but the Schallers will perform much better and are direct mount replacements. I'd keep 'em too.

    Very Nice Guitar!

    I have an 86 SG62 Standard.
It also had the very low frets and I found it to be almost unplayable for my style. I had it refretted with Stainless Steel jumbo frets. Much better now.

I'm considering a re-fret, I know a custom is supposed to have low frets but they are just to low for me. I will play as is for a while and then decide what to do :) I also prefer medium/jumbo frets!
    Cheers!

Does fret size affect fret buzz at all?

Anyway, beautiful guitar! There's something I've always really dug about the '62 RIs, including the Showcase SGs and SG Elite.
