Hi guys, I have a Gibson SG that was refinished leaving the serial number a little hard to read. The pots date to 1978 but can't for the life of me figure out this serial number. One of the numbers seem to be missing from the split.

Any help would be great :) I have more pictures if anyone wants to see more.

i believe a 1978 should already have a 8 digit serial... so ur missing more than just 1 there.

That's what I thought, I wonder if the pots were replaced at some point.

If it were a 78, the serial would need 8 digits with the 1st and 5th digits indicating the year. In order for that to happen, the serial would be completely off-center.

Why not post a photo of the entire front of the guitar? Looking at the features would be more helpful than a serial with less than 8 digits.

I've seen earlier models with 6 and the made in usa stamp below it, which this one has so I'm all confused.

well, as long as it plays nice...for me the 40mm nut width is pretty nice... which is balanced by having a thicker neck.

btw, that looks like it's had a headstock repair?

I don't see any signs of a headstock repair the photos are kind of hard to see but here's the headstock.

Yeah it plays great and sounds awesome.
