Hi all,

New to the forum as just about to purchase my first SG and Gibson at that. Everything seems to check out legit, it’s a 2019 SG tribute in cherry red. The only thing I have noticed as a bit odd is the crown on the headstock appears to be misaligned, is this normal on these types on Gibsons?

It’s probably completely normal, but just seemed to stick out to me, so thought there would be no harm in checking!

Asked for further info from seller and he has all the documentation and Q/C photo (you can see the misalignment in the photo), I am getting a fairly good deal on this so not a deal breaker if it checks out, what’s your thoughts?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply the guitar is not legit. (It sure seems to be.) However, the placement of the silkscreened crown is clearly a factory error. If that doesn't bother you (and you are getting a good deal), there's certainly no harm in checking it out!

If it plays good, and the price is right, I would say go for it. Definitely looks misaligned though in the photo. "Abby Normal" sums it up nicely.

Personally I can handle some oddities if it means getting a good player at a nice price. I might even just name it "Abby" if it were mine and rock on!

I ran the serial number and nothing came back. Tried it with 0’s and O’s, with no luck.

Personally, if anything is suspect on a guitar I walk away. Especially if I am not seeing it in person.

Unless that is a clearly marked a B Stock guitar I would put my wallet back in my pocket

Ive walked away from the deal. Plenty others to choose from and I started to feel uneasy about this one.

You can clearly see the misalignment in the "birth" photo in the case candy... Kind of surprised that one got out the door.

Just out of curiosity what was the asking price?

Typically something like that has no effect on the usefulness (playability) of the instrument, but it will totally kill the inflated resale prices that the market usually commands on a Gibson guitar.

Was originally listed for £700, i managed to get the price down to £600 also came with a gator case (was buying unseen). I walked away from it in the end and I am picking up a 2011 tribute SG with P90s tomorrow in person, only thing with this one is it only comes with the manual and no checklist or any the other goodies like the one in the OP.

The ‘11 60’s Tribute looks killer, imo, but it’s begging for reflector knobs. I’m guessing slim taper neck?
Pics or it didn’t happen!

Popped up local to me, has an upgraded scratch plate, but comes with the original and a new Gibson hard shell case. Pictures aren’t the best, but will try and post some better ones once I have it (if it all looks good when I go to check it out). All seems good going off the pictures. 4195ED00-E2BD-41F0-9E4A-7AD6D50A0204.jpeg 43B0CE5F-DD50-4E4A-8AD0-2B1C47A028BE.jpeg BDE113A2-A0DA-41E2-AB37-AE0E13B9A057.jpeg E8794159-9D60-47F7-B459-705115C10FDA.jpeg

The serial number on checklist is not legit because the format is incorrect for a 2019 model.

2019 serial does not use 1st and 5th digits for the year. 1st and 2nd digits indicate the year starting back in 2014.

2019 was the transition year. Early 19 was different from late 19. So, there were both that year.
