I had not seen these before, but I like what I see.
I like both of the satin finishes offered, but prefer the Walnut.
I'd have to install black P-90 covers, but otherwise what a lovely guitar!

Plain and elegant at the same time, I love it.
I don't really need one, and the list price seems high, but what a beauty.
I was just extolling the virtues of the SG '50s Tribute when I looked again at
Gibson's site and saw this. I have two excellent SGs and several other guitars
so I'm resistant to the G.A.S. but still...

It makes me wonder if this is one of those Gibson Ideas that Don't Sell...
such that they'll be marking them down and down about six months from now.
Can you hear the rusty old brain wheels grinding? The perfect working mans'
SG. Plenty of guitar for your hard earned dollars.

Very nice, but I hate veneer on a SG.

I find it a little strange this model costs more than the Standard. It does look nice though! (Particularly the Walnut.)

Thanks for bringing these wonderful guitars to our attention.

Only thing I'd do differently is put the light and dark pickup covers to the light and dark guitars.

And the Firebrand SG is lonely and really needs a like minded companion. This is seriously not what I need to see - have already been told "You have too many guitars. If you get another guitar, one has to leave!!!!!." This is the classic Between a rock and a hard place.

Why does Gibson put heavy Grovers on and then cheap out and use 14:1? If I'm gonna deal with the heavier weight of Grovers I expect to get 18:1 tuners.

Other than that a great guitar.

I might be seeing things, but to me when the top grain doesn't follow on the bevels, it looks like veneer. Maybe it's not.

    Compared to this.

Indeed. I did not scroll down to this one that shows following grain patterns.

Could be a 1 piece mahogany veneer was applied to the top for appearance
sake to hide the seams on the multi piece mahogany body. I'm fine with that.

Can of Worms... Do Not Touch...

I didn't notice the grain thing because I was staring at the blonde guitar and holding my hand under
my chin to prevent drool from dropping on my keyboard. Personally, I don't think it's veneer. I think that's
an Epiphone thing... or maybe a Les Paul thing. If it felt good under my caress, and if the instrument sounded great, I probably would let it go. (It better sound good, for the price). But if the veneer peeled up, I'd be pissed.

Well and so... I don't think it's veneer. The guitar is called SG Naked. No Pickguard, (gasps of shock) no binding, no nibs, no problem. Just the way the workingman's SG should be. I didn't see them offered by Musician's Friend. Maybe they don't know about this yet.

But if you found a blonde, naked and shivering at some mass marketeer's emporium like GC,
wouldn't your chivalrous impulses arise... such that you freed the lady from her situation and brought her
home to protect her from the prying eyes and sweaty paws of onlookers and metal monsters, dissolute Rock musicians and their glittery entourage, glowering punks, glassy eyed stoners, hairy palm Roadies and wan wannabes?

You'd want to take care of her, buy her stuff to cheer her up. If you thought she was kind of exposed, get her a good case. If you thought she was under dressed, you could put a strap on her, then she wouldn't be so
shockingly naked, would she. If I were going to put a pick guard on a walnut SG, I'd want Blued Steel.
