    Hi

Does anybody have one? How do they compare with custom shop or 61 reissue models?

What do you mean by "Gibson SG Original?" Current Gibson offerings or older offerings such as say a used non custom shop Gibson SG? IMVHO, I think the Custom Shop models are way over priced.

I think he's talking about the one with the maestro.

I have not played the original, or the original 2. But I would buy either in a heartbeat. Amazing aesthetics, beautiful colorings, great features and craftsmanship (from what I hear). I have read numerous reviews from owners with nothing but good reviews.

Several ETSG members have purchased them, so I hope they chime in for you.

One thing I read is that there is some differences from the 2013 models to the ones most recently re released. Prodominently the heal joint I believe

I have an SG Original from 2013. It's basically a '61 reissue with a Maestro. It has the 60's neck and the wider headstock, which I absolutely love. Mine is a one piece body. It's a beautiful and great playing guitar.

Hi, thanks for the help. Yes I meant the recent maestro version. I’m interested in getting one or similar spec 61 with maestro. Don’t think Gibson are currently making them. I have a rock n roll relics thunders 2 I need to sell to fund it first though.

I own an SG Original II. Bought it new back in 2014 and it’s been my #1 since! I saw they released them again this year! I’m not sure what changes they made from 2014 and 2018 but the pickups in mine are so lush and throaty. Pretty sure they are ‘57 Classics? It’s just a tone machine. The neck is super comfortable. An inbetween of a ‘61 profile and sg Classics. Worth every penny!!

FuzzBuzz 78, that Rick 330's also a must have. I dig mine a lot.
That cantilever tremolo on your SG Original really adds to the tone, I would think. I like any guitar that is very non-'80s, which that one is.

Not that there weren't cool guitars in the '80s. My bad...:/

I have a 2104 Model (original II) in OXBlood (really dark) I cannot compare it to the 61 re-issues directly as I don't have one, but it is an awesome guitar and one of my favorites. It is way warmer than my 16 Standard T and really close to my 2013 Standard (winch many have called a rebranded 61 re-issue as it shares many common attributes with that platform). I have not seen the newer re-issues of the Originals.
