I have this guitar myself (2007 Gibson sg special faded worn yellow mint) but its unfortunately not my thing to be honest. Anyone here who has a clue what it could be worth?

I dont mean to hijack your thread, sorry if its too much.

    Thanks.

Depending on condition you might get $800 for it

Note that the Worn Yellow finish wears unusually quickly.

This is what mine looks like after a year since my first photos. Evidence of my right hand position can be clearly seen!

Okay, so today I took some more photos of the SG Special Faded in Worn Yellow. I've also included a couple of my SG Junior in Coral Pink. Now in comparing the wear on this Special over the last year with that on the Junior remember that both of them have fairly thin paint but the Junior seems to have a satin finish clear coat as well. The Special has a relatively flat finish, and does not seem to have a clear coat at all. Also the Junior was my #1 guitar for the two years that I was in Terania, being used at most band practices and at all but two of our sixteen live shows while I was in the band (the Special being used once and my Explorer once). Both have DiMarzio ClipLock straps, the Junior has had one for over two years whereas the Special has had one for fourteen months. The majority of the wear on the Junior has been caused by the buckle on that strap.

This will give some idea of how fast the 'Worn Yellow' finish wears if you compare these to the photos at the beginning of the thread, which shows the wear that the guitar had accumulated in the period 2007-2014 (i.e, before I bought it).

Please note that the strange dark smudges on the photos are not on the instruments, they are damage to my camera caused by strobe lights at gigs that I have attended over the years. I think it is quite clear from these photos that the previous owner used the guitar rarely, perhaps in an effort to reduce wear and retain resale value.

Blimey, Dave - what have you been doing to those poor guitars???

You've been frantically rubbing yourself against them; you're some kind of fetishist - you don't play guitar at all, do you? Come on, admit it, it can't be any worse than eS.G.'s behaviour! :D

I've got a 2005 faded yellow LP DC that I recently acquired that has a lot of finish wear also, but the frets have no wear at all. I was thinking it was a faked relic job from a previous owner. The wear on the neck looks just like yours. Maybe it is just honest wear on mine after seeing yours. Thanks for the pics.

And we didn't get to see it ?
Come on, you get a faded Yellow LP DC and keep it for yourself ?
Heresy I say. You should get lashed with bass strings.

I'd say it is 100% genuine. From what I have seen of those LP DCs from that era they have the exact same finish. This paint wears off very easily.

I don't do anything funny to it, but I do play above the 5th fret, unlike the previous owner ... I don't think he sat his right hand against the finish much either. Probably didn't play much by way of palm mutes etc. My hand position (which you can see in the next photo) is really evident in the wear pattern in the photos above. I think I have a pretty typical 'fat boy' playing position. Pagey in Mammoth holds his SGJ the same way and is seeing the same wear, although it is not as obvious as it is chocolate brown.

Your SGs are a fine couple of knockouts! The honest wear certainly adds to their character!

I sprayed a few soak-er coats of clear lacquer on this guitar the original finish was worn through. 001.JPG 002.JPG

The ones I saw brand new in stores had the paint worn through on parts of the neck and also on the upper part of the body where your arm would rub. You could see white under the yellow where it was worn away like Dave's guitar shows. I'm pretty sure the colour was called Worn rather than Faded and the worn through paint was deliberate from the factory. It's Less durable than the faded finish but the yellow looks cool.
