that video of the whole lotta rosie solo perfectly demonstrated everything i love about the gibson sg tone, the crunch, oooooo the crunch :)
thats what I TRIED to say.
where? can you show us?
the perfect AC/DC sound (Angus Young, of course)
angus is NOT the perfect ac/dc sound. solos hes is but all around? no. malcolms crunchy chord sound is also a big part of it.
If you think about it Malcolms Gretsch has most of the sound. Angus's guitar has a deaper tone when he plays it than Malcolms guitars. The best AC/DC songs are from the late 70's when angus use to put alot of reverb in the solo's. It sounded so awesome. I agree that malcolm has alot of the AC/DC sound though but the AC/DC solo's are sweet too and have that nice gibson tone to them. Malcolm might be a better player than angus i am a huge Angus Young fan but i was watching videos from awhile ago and Malcolm was actually playing a solo and it sounded cool. Angus isnt in his late fourties java he is 51 and still running around playing guitar so give him credit. HIS SIGNATURE IS THE SCHOOL BOY OUTFIT!!
I don't give a toss how old/young Angus is (pun intended); the schoolboy outfit joke ceased to be funny around 1978. It seems from what you're saying that I'm the same age as Angus and, personally, I wouldn't want to have been stuck in the same rut for thirty odd years, regardless of what the fans might expect, or the financial gains from milking their gullibility and unwillingness to move on. I appreciate that some of the ETSG forum (particularly the younger ones - though God knows why?) thinks the sun shines out of Angus's backside but, let's be honest here, IT DOESN'T! He's an average guitarist who's prolonged a tedious riff or two into a thirty+ year career (not to mention the sexist/mysoginistic lyrics). Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!
There are so many bands out there that are a one-trick-pony. They do one thing again and again. ZZZzzzzzzzzz......... Well, AC/DC fits that description to a T and I still love their old stuff. Java is right. AY has a gimmick people will pay money to see, so now and then they hit the road to rake in the dough. Live, his thrashing about is tiresome (I've seen them a few times) but they SOUND good with good gear. I'm an old fart who believes their best stuff was with Bon Scott. They could have quit then and been a LEGEND almost like Hendrix, but they got RICH with Brian Johnson. They do it their way, right or wrong, they wear normal clothes (mostly) and don't parade around the celebrity scene. I have a lot of respect for them and I love all their early stuff. But after For Those About To Rock, I don't get excited about their music or Jones' vocals. Is Angus the King? Nah, but he and Malcom put down a sound that makes the hair stand up on my arms and inspires me to shake my house with dirt simple power chords. :-) Neo
well, although i do prefere pre 1980 AC/DC, to say that post 1980 AC/DC is bad would be dumb in my opinion. people spend too much time obsessing over what they used to be, instead of moving on and realizing that they are different, with different singer, different tones, and differeent tunes. obviously if all you want to hear is ealy stuff, your not going to like the later stuff but if you realize that theyre different you can enjoy the fact that theyrwe still a great band. IMHO. if you never like DC to begin with then well......your on your own.
i just look at acdc the same way i do motorhead and the ramones...they have a formula, it works for them, they keep it, it keeps their fans happy, if you dont like them, oh well....i dont see why so many people have to find super talent with the guitarists to justify them as 'good'...and who cares? if the tunes rock, then they rock...its not rocket science...different tastes, its only rock and roll, not jazz
