Apart from collecting more guitars, is there any point in buying a Les Paul or a Flying V?

I like the look of the string through body Vs like the originals but not the current regular ones. However, at $4800 for the Gibson version...

Is the Epiphone version that bad in comparison? For a tenth of the price...

Do you think 10 times the price means ten times the quality ? I don't.

Well, it doesn't, of course, and I'm here to testify. Had the epi for a while and there was absolutely nothing to complain about. Tried many Gibsons during that time, because, yes, I wanted one that said Gibson, but there was nothing other than the logo that differed so the price seemed just stupid. Got a Gibson body for 400 and rebuilt it so now I have one anyway. (mind you, I'm the kind of guy that thinks anything more than 1 000 for a guitar is stupid, so you might want to take that into account) Perfect example of my new, more mature, reasoning: If chicks don't know the difference, who gives a sh1t.

Now as for the OP's question. No point in getting an LP, but sh!t, the V! A must for the image conscious player who wants to communicate bad assery. (also great access and nice position of neck)

Do I have to get a 5 ft long blonde wig too?

Not at all, the guitar in question makes everyone look badass, the hair doesn't add to this, it's the guitar that balances it out. It's an equal opportunity guitar that makes everyone look just as good.

In answer to question #1...if you don't see a point, don't...
#2...I like the 2nd gen, '67...but apart from that, the Epis may be better for the buck...I almost pulled trigger for a black Epi Les Paul Std back in '06...it played so nice, felt really good albeit weighing a ton...couldn't quite swing the $450 at the time.
Simply a matter of what you feel is right to you.
