I have a standard and it's a great guitar. But bearing in mind I changed the pickups completely anyway, if I were buying my SG over again, I'd probably go for the Special faded. I like dot markers, don't mind much whether a guitar neck is bound or not and really like the faded finish.

What did you change the pickups of the standard with?
Plain curiosity 'cause I'm changing the bridge pickup these days and I'm gathering opinions. No particular complaints for the neck pickup, so I'm probably keeping that for a while.

I have a set of Bare Knuckle Riff Raffs. They're relatively low-output pickups so I wouldn't recommend you putting one in the bridge and keeping the 490 in the neck. The 490 in the neck would then have more output than your bridge pickup and leave you with an imbalanced sound.
Bare Knuckle Pickups in general, however, come highly recommended.
