It's gotta be. I if I rest my arms on the guitar, and the bare part of my arm touching a string, I get quite a little jolt pumped into my system. It happens with both of my electrics guitars.

I've got a Laney 50 watt tube head. What is going on!? I want this fixed... it also has a bit of humming as well.

Is the "Off/ On" just a two way....... then there may be a ground switch somewhere else on the amp.... maybe the back? Some switches were three way (a center "Off" polarity change left or right...)

Is the power plug a 3 pin (w/ grd) .... and it's still there........ or a two pin? Is the recept you're plugging into part of a grounded system........?

IMO.... if there is loose juice running around, all it's doing is trying to find the path to ground..... I have heard ground straps work....... never used it myself.

Check the plug, if the ground prong is loose or missing then it's a pretty easy fix. I just used a spare plug from the hardware store, cut off the dud and did some re-connecting. Totally solved the shock/hum problem.

The power cable has all 3 pins intact.

Maybe I should still find a new power cable and see if that solves the problem?

well, ya could, but it would be a pain in the ass if that turned out not to be the problem.
When i fixed the ground on my buddy's amp, I was lucky that the missing link wasn't deeper inside. Made the fix real easy. Amp guts are mainly a mystery to me. Nothing like guitar guts.

Mmmmm.... guitar guts....

Maybe it's that lightening rod hat you wear while you play?

Maybe, it's in the house wiring? Try a different outlet on a different circuit...

Careful Dude. Don't get fried, man!
(But if you do, can I have all your gear?)

Good point Vic.... try the different plug and if it still happens, then maybe even a different house. An older home may not have a grounded system as required by newer codes..... 8)
