Well, after seeing lots of you fiddle, tweak and even build guitars I've decided to try my hand at it for the first time.
I'm a real noob at this particular facet of guitars, so bear with me.
I've decided to go the easier route for my first project, i.e. building a guitar from prefab parts. This I figure will help me learn while not creating too dramatic dead-ends.
So, after a few months of just thinking and studying about it, I've finally decided to buy my first part..... the body.
I went with this particular body because I kinda liked its configuration and it looked cool AND I got it a at pretty low price.
Here are a few pics:
Specs (as given me by seller):
Ibanez style
Solid alder with quilted maple top
Fits Floyd Rose trems and 2 Humbuckers
Fits 24 fret neck
Now, I have a pretty good idea of how to approach the actual putting together of the parts, but of course there must be a thousand little things that I know nothing about and that will stomp me throughout. But no problem, I feel confident that I will prevail.
There is one thing though that eludes me, and this is where I ask the help of the experienced guitar builders here.
The neck!
I've read everything I could get my hands on about it, but still one question remains..... What are the specs of a neck that will fit this body?
The guy I bought it from said this was for a 24 fret neck. Does this mean I can't put a 21 fret one? Or any other one?
You see, the scale lenght thing I think I kinda understand, except is there a way of figuring out, by measuring the body cavity or whatnot, what exact neck will fit the body?
I don't want to buy a neck that won't fit.
And also, I think I figured out that since this is readied for a Floy Rose style trem, then I need to get a neck that has a radius compatible with that kind of bridge.
I've read somewhere that an original Floy Rose bridge needs a 10 inch radius neck. Any truth in that?
Anyway, I'll stop here and wait for your input.
Thanks.
