Looks like a short-neck model, which are VERY popular right now, tuned oddly, A G D low to high.

BTW, $200 bucks is not a bad price for a good baglama.

I love the craftsmanship. I looked at a sitar in Davis the other day, that the asking price of $150 would have paid about 1/2 cent per hour for the labour entailed in its construction. It makes me ponder what Gibson Custom would charge for such an instrument . $12-20 k would be my guess.

A lot of those sitars are made in bulk in a town called Miraj, and bought by other guys that finish the instruments and sell them - that's why the makers like Heman and Rikki Ram and others that build the whole instrument are the best.

When I was working for a music biz, we tried to get the basic sitar makers to sacrifice some of the cosmetic details and put more attention into sound and playability - and before the business went under we were making good progress in doing so.
