Just picked up a ‘17 Faded SG with 490’s in it, batwing guard in cherry. Unbound fretboard with dot inlays.
I wanted to add a maestro vibrola to it because I think it looks nice.

Has Gibson ever made a 60’s or 70’s SG in a similar configuration (no binding, dot inlays, humbuckers, maestro)? I’m just curious.

    No.

SG Faded is one of the many versions of the SG Special. 2002 was the first year of the worn finishes and they were marketed as SG Special Faded and recent years the name was shortened to SG Faded.

SG Specials from 61-71 had P-90’s. Early 60’s had small guard, then mid to late 60’s had batwing.

Through the rest of the 70’s they had small guard with Mini Humbuckers and late 70’s they had Humbuckers.

Maestro Vibrola was never used on the SG Specials. Short Vibrola in the 60’s and in the 70’s some had a Bigsby or some variant of one.
