I just want to introduce myself to everyone here at ETSG. My name is Mike and I've owned an SG Standard since early 1977. It's a '76 Walnut finish model which I bought new. I know Norlin era Gibsons generally aren't liked but this guitar is awesome, it plays great and sounds killer. It's bone stock, the only work done to it are string changes and setups and the usual pickup adjustment/tweaking. As far as quality I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as the fit and finish are just about on par with my two other Gibsons, a 2003 Melody Maker and a 2004 Les Paul Standard, which I have absolutely no issues with. I will admit I want a newer SG, something equipped with '57 Classics, but the '76 will always have a home with me, and will be played.
I'm mostly into blues/rock, my music heroes for the most part are your standard blues and rock/classic rock (I hate that term) icons; The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Hendrix, Robert Johnson...and on and on.
I'm glad to be here, having lurked here I can see you are a great bunch of people and I look forward to being part of the community! Mike
