Hello from the Garden State. Happy to join the board here after finally picking up an SG that felt right. This is my second SG, an early 2012 Standard. The neck is incredible, perfection actually. I’ve played many an SG before, previously owned a 2017 Standard, but the 2017 neck felt slimmer to me than the 2012 does now, and I ended up trading it. Anyway, after tweaking the heights of the 490/498 pickups, I can’t put it down. Not sure the dislike for these pickups, I find them very clear and sensitive to pick attack after about an hour of getting the height to where I liked it. Not sure if I’m going to remove the PCB board and hand wire it any time soon but could be a fun project down the road. That’s all for now!

Welcome aboard! We like pictures of SG's so show us yours. I've spent some time in NJ the last couple of summers and really enjoyed it. Not what this Southern Boy was expecting at all. Pork roll on a hamburger? Not bad. Went to Asbury Park last year, and it wasn't open for the season yet, but what a cool place. Wanted to go to the Wonderbar, but it was closed as well. Factory records in Dover was really cool as well.

I’m originally from the cloudy, rainy hills of the southern tier of New York State about 3.5 hours north west of NYC. NJ was a lot different than I had expected too, definitely for the better. Here’s a pic of that SG!

Offhand, is there an SG 61 model with similar neck specs?

The new ones are “rounded.”
I love the 490’s too, and though I generally prefer rewiring to ‘50’s era style, I can find great tones as-is.
I’m delighted with my newish(er) SG Standard.
