Hi there. My name’s Otis. I live just outside Chicago, Illinois and I’m guitar crazy. I’ve been playing for 30 years now and 2 weeks ago I bought my first SG. It’s a 2008 Epiphone G-400. I got it online from Guitar Center in Davenport, Iowa. It was listed in fair condition for the silly great price of 149.99. There’s a chip out of the paint on the headstock and three of the knobs are missing their silver tops, otherwise it’s immaculate. I played it for a week and after adjusting the height and pole pieces, decided I was never going to love the neck pickup so I did a lot of research and decided I’d try a Seymour Duncan 59 in there. Sounds great. I like the stock “Hotch” bridge pickup a lot. I’d be lying if I told you the idea of one covered pickup and one uncovered pickup doesn’t weird me out, but the price was right and it’s growing on me. I went ahead and put the rest of my current collection on display for you because I figure you’re probably into that sort of thing. Enough talk. Pics to prove it happened.
Hello mate, welcome to the forum, and yes, we like guitar pics! Good deal on your G400, they're great guitars for the money and make a good platform for mods, as you've discovered. I know it's a common practice to name guitars, but I don't think I've ever seen numbers before.
Happy NGD and Welcome. You got a great deal on that SG. Looks like a workhorse. That's a nice lineup you have.
Welcome to our little party room. Nice guitars. Been playing at it for about 45 years. Didn't get my first electric till 2009.... A G400. Just curious, how far just outside Chicago. I'm up by the Wisconsin border.... maybe 20 minutes from Lake Geneva, but still in Illinois.
Greetings Otis and Chicago area Folk, Number 16, awesome guitar, the G&L Asat, just seems to be more of a guitar than many Tele's ever were. Welcome. One day, there might be a Chicago area SG Day. Maybes we meet someplace inviting like http://rosaslounge.com/ We start with a Chicago Handshake and then discuss the SG's place in history and our lives.
