Those '70s Sg are alittle weird looking for my taste. I would not call that "very good" condiotneither. If you like it, go for it!

If ya don't mind that ugly control plate on the front and the crappy 90 degree set neck than go for it. IMO, Save up a few more bucks and buy a nice pre or post 70's Standard !

I love the control plate and pickguard. It's just different, yah know? But yeah, I wouldn't call that "very good" either, and whats the deal with the neck?

In the early 70's , Gibson in their ultimate wisdom decided to redesign the way the neck is set into the body. It made for a HUGH heel and the neck sits up rather high above the body. Just check out the picture of that SG on G-Base and take a look at how high the neck sits and how thick it is. Now take a look at ,lets say a late 60's SG and check out the size of that heel ! You can SEE the difference !

I don't know, that's pretty beat up.

I could save a lot of coin by going for a black SG junior, which would be cool. I like P90's. They definitely suit what I'm going for. But I'm assuming that the neck isn't bound, and the info on the gbase post was a bit sketch.

Well here's the deal:

I'm selling my black standard in order to simply get something different. I had my mind made up on a natural burst, but now I've been seeing some pretty cool stuff.

I have a 61RI as well. I want something the price (or lower) of a standard. I want something that will compliment my 61RI in terms of neck thickness, so I don't want anything that has a thicker neck than a standard.

Any suggestions for me?

A Classic!

...if only you didn't live in Canada.

It sounds like P-90s would be nice and alittle different from the '61RI. I you can get newish JRs for around $500. Those old JRs are kind of sketchy if you can't play them first.

Actually, someone on here is wanting to trade straight across for a classic.

But the neck is thicker than the standard, and I just don't think I could go back and forth from the classic to the 61RI. I'd also have two red sg's.....

i would say go with the 1970's standard. one of my friends has one and it plays and sounds nicer than my ebony standard. the older wood just does something to the sound and it makes it sound good and stuff.... i dont really know where i'm going with this one...
