    Hi Folks,
I've just bought myself a SG on ebay and I was wondering if you guys can help me identify the exact model and year.
I won't get to see the guitar for 3 weeks as I'm working offshore and I'm looking forward to learning a bit more about it.
It was sold to me as a 70's SG custom, here's a few pics.

There's a few things which may help dating or IDing it.
The headstock design is different from other 70's customs I have seen.
It has rectangle inlays on the neck rather than trapezoid
    It has a harmonica bridge.
It has a short tenon neck joint ( i think)
Any help you can give me would be much appreciated!
There's lots of great info on this site about SG's in gereral but is there anything specifically about the Custom models?
    Cheers!

Thanks for the ID everdying, I thought that might be the case due to the headstock design, however this is not a problem for me as I got it for a very reasonable price :)
It will be nice to find out if the 3rd pickup was added a long time ago, I'll strip it when i get home and check it out.

Interesting neck joint on that one...looks like its been sanded down or something-theres no "step"....the body looks like its been "re countoured" to look like a 60's ......nice guitar, but I think its had some "beautification"....hopefully that third pickup is a PAF ! :)

Thought I'd post a quick update, I got some more photos, here is a picture of the serial number.

I've narrowed it down to "Kalamazoo or Nashville Plant , USA approximately in: 1974 or 1975 "
    Using guitardaterproject.org

Can anyone help me get this narrowed down to the exact year and location? Or is this the best I can expect given the randomness of Gibby serial numbers from this era.

Still got over 2 weeks to go before I actually get my hands on it, cant wait! :D

    1970, 1971, and 1972 - 100000s, 600000s, 700000s, 900000s
    1973 - 000001s, 100000s, 200000s, 800000s and a few “A” + 6 digit numbers
    1974 and 1975 - 100000s, 200000s, 300000s, 400000s,500000s, 600000s, 800000s
    and a few A-B-C-D-E-F + 6 digit numbers

I think that's as close as you'll get.

You'll get a more definite date from the pot codes when the guitar arrives. They will probably pitch it to one year or the other - allowing for time differences between production and use of the pots of course.

Hope it's everything you hoped for - albeit not a Custom. :)
