Maybe it has to do with the volume.

I'd rather be able to do that with my tongue. I've never heard anything scream like that from using your tongue.

    Well.... almost never O0

Vai has a Sustainer built into that Jem.......watch close and you can see him flick the octave switch on it.

    LOLOLOL ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

They are playing with Digitech Whammys and Vai ain't blowing on the pups......

He was blowing on the string to get some vibration for the sustainer to react with. Same with the tongue.

I hate the Whammy...I have one and they are not musical.....freaking noise makers IMHO.

    Guitarstabation......nothing more ;)

Yeh me too, I hoped it was something that took him years to learn and no other guitarist could do. Just so there's a slight chance I liked him better than satriani. But it's not and I don't 8)

Notice the whammy in conjuntion with the tongue. I think the synchronized tongue movement is just for show. Those guys are really looking old!

why does Joe satriani always get bundled in with all the mindless shredders? i went to see him live, OK so he plays fast but it's so much more than just shredding when he plays, there is passion and emotion same as many blues solo's. the only difference is as far as I'm concerned is that blues solo's are inspired by the kind of feelings you have when your recently divorced wife shoots your dog and steals all your money and Joe's stuff is generally inspired by feelings of happiness and/or excitement, although he has done some really calm songs like 'Rubina' and 'starry night' just of the top of my head. personally i think he's pretty much the best guitarists around and was one of the reasons i started to think about learning to play, malmsteen shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as him let alone be aloud to play on stage with him.:tickedoff:

    rant over
