I have always spent a lot of time playing my guitars. I grew up in a musical family and never thought of "practice" as work. I spent a fair part of the seventies on the road playing professionally and even after settling into my government gig, I played with local bands. I always got in at least two hours playing time every day. Now in retirement, I usually get in four hours/day.
How much time do you put in?

I try to keep one out, and spend 15 minutes here and there.

My problem was I was practicing the same old rut stuff, and not progressing.

I started lessons a few weeks ago, and I'm trying to practice the new stuff I'm learning.

I go thru cycles. I will go weeks where I hardly play at all... then I will either find a song I want to learn or have a music buddy or my boys come over and get me back into it. Then I will go a month or two of playing probably an hour or so a day. Then there is the new gear honeymoon... when I get new gear, the first month is always on fire. So I would say if averaging things out... I probably average 15-20mins per day. Not really enough to get that good but enough that I can do the basics. I have a gig in may so have been playing a lot this month. Already put in 30mins this morning and will do another 30mins this afternoon. Some of the songs on our set list are tough so taking some work to learn them.

Ive been in better space musically.

In school i probably spent 2 hours a day jamming. I had an insatiable hunger for it.. that and it beat the hell out of homework.

At varsity, it dropped off a bit. Started working and met some guys, we started a band that went on to gig for the better part of 4 years. That was awesome, and exhausting. Probblt put in 2 odd hours again then.

Band split for all the wrong reasons, i actually think i went depressive after that. This was 9 years ago. Didnt want to see a guitar let alone play one.

Then the build bug bit when i attempted repairing a fiddle i trashed.

Became great at setups and mods. So my attention and interest changed to the technical side of guitar and bass.

These days, i play in a casual weekend warrior outfit, read as beer day, i fiddle prob around 30mins these days.

I hope my son gets the bug, i hope to jam with him when he is older

Not enough. Come home from work and most nights just to pooped to pee.... let alone wander upstairs to sit down with a guitar.

When I was a teen I would play all the time to the detriment of my school work. Now I think about it all the time but never get much of a chance to. I enjoy playing with others too much that I find it kind of boring practicing by myself so I tend not to.

My repertoire or mostly my imagination, aren't stuffed enough to go more than 2 hours.

Just learned Funk#49 today. Fun riff.
Phil X does a good version.

I work from home and my guitars and amps are in my office next to my chair and within easy reach at all times and an accoustic in the living room. Since I'm just learning for a year now I'm motivated and I spend a couple hours a day practicing, sometimes more. Amplified during the day when everyone is out, accoustic at night, more focused on scales. But when I do too much I notice I feel it in my joints the next few days and need to taper back down. I'm not a young man anymore. My joints cant handle much more than 2 hours a day without serious swelling and pain the next day. I book a practice space once a week for an hour to play drums to stay in practice on those too. Usually trying to write drum parts to go along with the riffs I've been jamming on during the week. Overall very satisfying and keeps me motivated.

Yeah, you got plenty nice guitars. Stop tinkering with them and play them.

There's always something else to do!...

    <sigh>. I know, I know - I'm prevaricating.

I'll have some time while I wait for the glue to dry on those tailpiece bushings :D

Along with my words and my friend's video, I wish all here who play and aspire to be better at their playing, many hours of enjoyment from your pursuits and love of guitar and bass etc.

I play at least 1 hour a day. I'm still in high school, so that beats the hell out of homework, and then sometimes I play even more! :jam:

But usually its 4-5 hours a day over the summer/weekends and then 1-3 hours on school nights. I play probably too much, but then again, that might be why people compliment me on how good I am when I play :D

Probably about an hour on weekdays, more on the weekend when I can. Trying to put together some jam partners right now. I've been in a bit of a rut lately, need to work on some new things and try to push my playing further.
