Hi everyone!
I'm back in the SG world after a hiatus of more than 20 years. I recently won an ESP Edwards '61 SG Custom knockoff on eBay. I've wanted an SG Custom since I was a kid. At Apple Music Co. in Portland, Ore. back in the day, the owner Kelly had his personal '61 hanging way up on the wall, and I would go in there on Saturdays just to ogle it. :)
I'll start another thread about the Edwards in the appropriate forum here, but let me say that it's not bad apart from some fretwork issues.
My only previous SG was a '72 Deluxe that I owned back in the mid '80s. Unfortunately, that thing was a total dog, but such is the way of the Norlin guitars, eh? I was very disappointed with that guitar because I grew up idolizing Tony Iommi and wanted an SG. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a better one at the time, and the early '70s Gibsons were quite affordable at the time--in fact, every store always seemed to have a POS Norlin guitar or two that they couldn't give away. I laugh at the prices they command now, since I've played very few early '70s Gibsons that I liked. Gibson seemed to get its act together by the late '70s, IMHO.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to interesting conversation. I've been playing since 1982, and my current weapons of choice are a Heritage H-157 Black Beauty and a Heritage H-555 semi-hollow. Basically, they're the same quality as Gibson Custom Shop guitars but at a sane price. I've also got a whole slew of metal-oriented Jacksons and ESPs that I use a lot. I'm sort of a jazz/metal fusion guy. You can check out my stuff at either www.councilofone.net or www.myspace.com/councilofone
