I decided to add a P-90 guitar to my collection!

What do you all think, a Gibson LP 50s Tribute or Gibson SG Classic!?

I am open to suggestions!

SG Classic all the way, you can't fail with an SG with P-90's, pure timeless rock tone.

Am I allowed to suggest an SG Standard P90 if you can find one?

Only because I got one and it's just amazing. I don't think it's much different from the Classic though...so I'd say go with that.

SG with P-90s will be cheaper than an LP with P-90s so I am going SG, most likely Classic. But I have to be honest, not sure how much use I would get out of the bridge pickup. I am a humbucker bridge guy.

That's a funny question to ask on Everything SG :D

I think an SG with P90s is the most universally liked guitar on this forum, especially as it seems to nail that "SG tone". I don't think the LP with P90s is so iconic, or at least not as represented here.

Sg's with P-90's have a lot of history. It might take a little getting used to, but it's well worth the effort.

Do any of you use the bridge pickup? Single coils in the bridge seem too thin.

i also love P90s in an SG and will say I use the bridge pickup in my SG classic. Now in the spirit of full disclosure... right now I have been using my LP goldtop 60s tribute more and more lately. Seems it and my humble Sg special faded tend to get alot of play time.

In a band setting, I hear little difference between a P-90 and a good low output humbucker.

My LP '60s is getting 100% play time.

A good P90 in the bridge position sounds awesome: fat'n'dirty but cuts through the mix better than a humbucker. IMO, of course. :)

If P-90s sound thin, you're using the wrong amp. As said above, they are really fat and dirty, with more bite than humbuckers. Above all that, they also have the brighter attack of a single coil. Let's see you put it down once you get it ^^

Another possibility is poor pickup height and pole adjustment .

A lead P-90 really does cut through the mix. Think Geo. Thorogood .

I use the bridge P90 pretty much always. It's BRIGHT to be sure, but thin? Not remotely.

P90s are nice but to me, humbuckers sound like an improvement and sound better in my opinion. A p90 guitar may limit me. I may just grab a humbucker s sized P90 for the neck position of one of my Gibsons.

I bought this SG Standard last August. It really compliments my SG Standards with Humbuckers well.

I would go for an SG junior with a single P90. Amazing guitar, not too expensive and they sound great, everyone's got to have a P90 guitar in their stable :)

Let us know what you get.

Lots of great stuff was recorded on a single P90 Jr....but I really like 2 P90's in an SG, you get that warm neck tone AND a really good range of combinations with both pups on.
