Just to be awkward, I don't listen to AC/DC and Angus' playing an SG is no reason to start as far as I'm concerned.

I started listening to AC/DC in 1976 (?) Maybe '77... I can't remember. My best friend was a DJ at a local AM Radio station when we were Juniors in High School. The radio station would get promo records sent to them for free MONTHS before they were released to the public. We would sit at the station at night and go through the new arrivals each weekend. I can't remember if it was "Powerage" or "Let There Be Rock" that was released first... but we got both of them several months (maybe even a year) before AC/ DC became popular in the states. Our High School was always on the cutting edge of new music thanks to that radio station. We had the first Van Halen record a full year before they were played on the radio.

It was Angus and Malcolm that led me to play guitar.

I was listening to them as soon as they hit the states. Thought they were kinda stupid.
How much can you do with three chords and a screeching singer?
The leads were kinda cool....simple, almost elegantly simple. Then it occured to me that these guys were just playing what they wanted, really loud, rude and tearin' it up! By the time Highway to Hell came out, I had to know how they got that sound!
I heard of a Strat and Les Paul, what the hell is an SG? Ah yes...
Then Jimmy Page uses a double neck version of the same thing? Really?
And THAT'S a Marshall.... okay, I think I get it now.

So I bought all kinds of guitars, the SG was always on the list but never made the cut.

I was naive enough to think "I have these Les Pauls, do I really need an SG?"
Also, "I have these Strats, do I really need a Tele?"

Well, I fixed ALL THAT last year.

If not for Angus, I may never have bought my '61 SG RI.

All the AC/DC stuff before Back In Black with Bon Scott still ranks near the top of my favorites, Powerage being number one for me.

    :-)

My step father gave me an AC/DC ape back when I was in 6th grade. I wasnt into it at all. I was on a hugh Sabbath/OzzY kick and thought the vocals were just aweful. Then in 9th grade when I started getting into guitar, my friend bought their double live album and said "listen to this man!" and he played thunderstruck...... I was in awe.. lol... After that I got into em.. Since I seem to be good at getting into heated depates round here ill say this... I like Brian Johnson better than Bon Scott...

    Let the hating begin!

i first saw AC/DC on TV back in the 80s for their video 'you shook me all night long' and i was hooked :p
i've always liked both the guitars and drum sounds of AC/DC.
Rage TV (Aussie's version of mtv) back then also had nights where they played all the AC/DC videos from like 4am-7am...
of cos now you can walk outside and buy it all on dvd...blah :p

Of course. I only tried to be funny. Don't get me wrong -- I love AC/DC, especially Highway to Hell and Back in Black.

him- "so your a big AC/DC fan then?"
    me- "who's AC/DC"

he refused to accept that i'd neve rlistened to them

EXACTLY! thats what i was tryingto explain to my friend.. but then again he playes a fender jag which in my opinion can only get a decent sound when played through loads of effects, not a fan of them.

AC/DC is and will always be my favorite band.

I highly recommend: If You Want Blood (You Got It) [The CD]

    '74 Jailbreak (CD)

    Family Jewles (DVD)

    Live At Donington (DVD)

    LIVE! (2-disc special edition)

    Bonfire Boxset

I love every song they've ever written. '74 Jailbreak is my most played, up there with Highway To Hell and If You Want Blood.

I saw Angus playin' an SG, and immediatly knew I wanted one. (And a Marshall stack, but one can only have so much....) I had already been playing for a year. Got a Black Gibson SG Special, which, to this day, stands above my '61 RI as my "AC/DC tone" guitar.

    Hail, hail! Rock'n'roll!
