I was checking out mac laptops....

for the same components (actually, even worse components) you pay a ton more cash.

Exactly, I would never buy a laptop worth $750 when I'd have to pay $1200 for it.

    Agreed!

Oh, and i found a new Dell, which is more awesome than the inspiron....

The Vostro!! It's the same as an Inspiron but....
I can get the same configuration plus more for a cheaper price, and it's completely black!! (The silver laptop is a thing of the past)

It's also in the small business section which apparently gets you better service and more options/free stuff

A lot of things about the small business section are subtle and good like having no freeware installed, more free storage for the online backup thing and options for
hard drive partitions (I don't completely understand those really, please help)

    Vostros FTW!!!

I know nothing about that line other than Iv'e seen alot of adds for it. Might want to do a search and see what the general opinion is on them reliability wise. I will be upgrading mine soon since my son wants a laptop and that is a good excuse for me to buy a new one and give him my old one ;D

Well, i found some laptop forum which I read a bit and one of the threads was called "Don't like the look of the Inspirons? Get a Vostro!"

The person said they are exactly the same chassis/design

Seeing how most inspirons are pretty good (My dad and brother both have them)
The vostro should be even better!

    lol probably.
I just checked out some pictures of that thing, and it turns out it's an ugly beast. Flat black, very heavy too. I'm not so wowed anymore.

Now i'm considering upping the budget slightly and getting an XPS 1530. It looks way better and apparently it's very light too. Anyone know something about this one? I configured an awesome one which worked out to $1,428.32CDN with taxes.

sounds like you have the info to make a smart choice. I just know if you travel with a laptop, some of the features that are cool are not so great over time. My current laptop is 5 pounds and I would not want anything heavier than that. I find the 14" screen is about the best compromise of viewing size to weight ratio. Also don't forget the power supply. Dell now offers lightweight power supplies as an option. I have to say they are great. Might want to check into that when you buy.

Apparently the m1530 which is a 15.4" weighs less than 5 pounds with no battery. And im not a businessman so i don't need an ultraportable!

Also some new Nvidia graphic cards are coming out in February which will make the ones out now way cheaper on dell's site. I don't have all the cash yet but after christmas I should!

    And now we wait

What would you say would be the best upgrades for the 1530?

    CPU? HDD speed/size?

I'm already going to get the best graphics card...

im looking at your customize options... for $1500 you can get the best options and you would have a laptop that is beefier faster larger (HD) than this 1210 im using and mine kicks ass. go for it.

I'm just waiting until after xmas when dell will give more screen options and maybe lower the price of some upgrades.
