Made in 1982, and I believe the pickups are Tim Shaw PAFs. The bridge is not the original Schaller 455, still it looks really good hanging out with the SGs. Plays, and sounds great!

They were part of a three guitar series, The Spirit, The Special, and The Flag. Made at the Kalamazoo plant. They are also said to have come with the 59' reissue PAF pickups. And those were designed by Tim Shaw around 1980. Mine has the Tim Shaw pups. But someone swapped out the original bridge.

OK, so why do you call it "II". As I observed, on Les Paul Specials, the "I" is for a one part bridge (wraparound) and the "II" for one with a Tune-O-Matic (bridge + tail piece).

I just sent a bunch of photos to Gibson to see if they can tell me more about this guitar. There isn't a whole lot of specific information online. I can't even find old catalog adverts for it.
