My last day of work was today :)
Ive never been so happy to quit. Walked out with a beer in one hand and a big ole' cigar in the other. Boss asked me if i was coming back next year and i simply replied "Go F#@k yourself" Ive been waiting for that day too long. Next job is construction, working after school, and on weekends and vacation. Have a couple weeks layover time though, so I'm gonna enjoy every minute of it.

Kitchen, it was a touristy restaurant with crappy seafood and watered down drinks. I have 5 other friends in my class that work there and they all quit this week also. Just a horrible job all around. I was doing dishes at night and cooking during the day.

We all started out in crappy jobs I'm sure.
Sometimes knowing what you don't want to do is more important than knowing what you do want to do for a living.
Having the luxury of burning bridges behind you fades with age, and getting a job is always easier when you already have a job.

some Dads might say not to ever quit a job but i think it is good to try several things when you are young. Now as a Dad, I would never support my boys quiting a job without notice though. Oh and the beer and cigar thing wouldn't go over too well at our house either ;D

PLenty of time to get locked into the work thing when you grow up. IF the job was a drag, quit and look for something that you enjoy or at least don't hate. maybe a job at a music store or club would be more to your liking. Or do what my boys do which is mow yards. Not glamorous but what else pays $10-$20 per hour and lets you set your own hours and be your own boss?

Good advice here. I'll add this;
1. Get another job doing something you might like.
2. Don't like it? Get another job.
3. Repeat as necessary.

Another thing they touched on above;
When you interview for a job, they are more likely to consider you if you can show exceptional maturity as a young man.
They really don't care how smart you are, you can show that later thru your actions. More impressive.

Being unemployed and looking for a job is not good, even for a young man.
If you are currently working and looking for a different job as your time off allows, big score in their view.
It's hard to imagine what every employer is looking for, but these are a few constants to keep in mind.

Also, if you quit your sucky job and tell them to F off, there's no good reference.
If your new job prospect calls your current boss, your boss may actually give a decent report even if he doesn't really like you.
Most can sympathize with a young man trying to better himself, really they can't blame you for looking.

Remember, even in a big town, word gets around. Even between businesses that have nothing to do with each other.
I learned the hard way when somebody told the new boss "Yeah, I know that kid..."
Screwed.

Good luck! O0

in my own little world... apparently

i will say this... i will avoid hiring anyone who has a history of continous leaving of jobs regardless of reason. i also hire attitude over experience any day. impress me with a positive attitude and i will train you on the skills...

ive never worked in a restaurant but i got to imagine that the turnover is very high there.

Well first of all the season is coming down so everyone is leaving, boss had notice. And my boss and I are friends, he knew i wasn't (too) serious when i told him to f-off, he laughed too. I like construction, it is fun so it will be easier for me to do if i enjoy what I'm doing, instead of cussing at plates all night. This will be my 4th job. I worked on a whale-watch boat for 5 years illegally under the table, and i also worked at another restaurant that went out of business. Need a scenery change, and something that doesn't have a "season" Also i can take something away from construction that i cant from dishwashing.

I work at a Mcdonalds :( of all places. I'm hopefully going back to college in a few weeks, so I can't wait to tell them all togo f--k themselves.

2 years grafting my arse off for minimum wage andnot a shred of gratitude. Just a number.

C'mon Phil, give 'em a break.
If it's the most stressfull job they've ever had, then there it is....

Years from now, I think more definitions will come to mind.
Back-breaking
Menial
Monotonous
Mind-numbing
Thankless
Unrewarding

I was a crane operator for 15 years, trained several people.

"Look at that guy, sitting in the cab with the A/C, heat, wipers, whatever.
Sits there, does nothing most of the day."

In training, I found most of those guys couldn't hack it.
They sit there all tensed up, and when it comes time to operate they get scared.
They calm down, then get bored out of their mind.

"F- this, I'm getting back down on the ground!"

They would choose ass-busting labor for half the money.
Hell, I became a pilot as a HOBBY!

I was a bussboy, being payed minimum wage, but often haveing to do dishes and getting shafted 30% of what should have been my hourly wage in doing so.

do you get payed more than 7$ an hour to do this?
do you get ANY form of a break during the hours you work?
do your employers make you do more work than your female counterparts, just becasue your a male(im making an assumption here yes)?
do you frequently have to do work that is above your paygrade for no extra money?
are you treated differently (in a negative way) becasue of your age?
do your employers shaft you on tip money, in spite of the fact that you do more work than others with the same position?
do you have to deal with an unsafe work environment.
have you ever gotten a pay raise?
do you bust your back leaning over a sink that is no more than 3 feet high, when your 6 feet tall?

I hade a desk job this summer. It was like heaven. people who actually like you, laugh with you. It was soooooo much better.

theres a lot that goes on beyond that 2 way door you may not understand.

I firmly believe that dishwashing and like jobs should be a rite of passage. Kids whose daddy got them a job down at the plant right out of high school usually piss away the job because they don't know what real work is. A lot of kids think that they should be able to buy expensive stuff with their first job. You have to prove yourself and good things will come. Even if you work at Mcdonald's, with the right work ethic and attitude you could own that McDonald's some day.

the only person limiting what you can do is you

get the best education you can and get into some career that has opportunity to be recognized for hard work -- nothing is damn sure going to be handed to you... unless your last name is hilton

granted i would be the last one to want to stand over a sink

there are days where the pressure feels absolutely crushing... then there are times where i just love what i do

most days i like going to work but everyday i am glad to be leaving it
