I was wondering about a few things. First off I have seen on allparts the blank tailpiece/vibrola that I want, however I want to know if it is possible to find a left handed one or flip the standard one over so that I can use it. Next, how hard are they to put onto the guitar? Do they mar the guitar or just use the existiong bridge screw holes and the strap bolt? I know someone who owns a trophy shop, so they do engravings and stuff, is that the kind of place to get engravings done? And finally, does anyone have a link to the graphic that is on the real gibson vibrolas and tailpieces? Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance.

Welcome Madspazz! :)
There may be a such thing as a lefthanded Lyre Trem. I have not seen one. No you cannot flip the piece that has the string slots and trem bar over. It has a groove in it that has to slide into a flange on the bottom piece. You would have to have the piece that hold the trem bar cast to put the bar on the opposite side. You could play the righthanded trem like Hendrix with the bar at the top. It might be easier to grab that way. Keep in mind Hendrix dive bombs are not done on these trems. They're basically for vibrato only.
Six screw holes drllied in the face of the guitar are required to mount a Lyre TP.
You might check with the engraving shop on procedure. My guess is that you would probably have to have the cover dechromed, engraved, and rechromed.
The Lyre engraving is hard to photograph on a chromed one like mine beacuase it is so shiny that the detail is hard to capture. A nickel plated one would be better('65-earlier). Maybe putting paper on a TP and dragging the side of the lead across the engraving like on a tombstone would pick up enough detail for the engraver. They use cear ahesive many times and trace the design and transfer it to the new piece much like a tatto artist does. A gun engraver would probably do a better job than a  trophy shop IMO.
You can view zoomable photos on musiciansfriend.com. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guitar/search/detail/base_pid/517061/

You know T ... I was talking to my best bud Matt from Indy and I sent him a lyre and a blank one, well his engraver friend said you wouldn't know the difference when he got done but did say it wouldn't be for a song either .... for a perfect copy!

There ya go! Thanks Vox! 8)
I'd like to see someone take an Allparts cover and put a really nice engraved original image on one. Like a cool Angus action shot with the "Angus" lettering or whatever. Personalize it! I actually thought about putting the "Byrdland" engraving on one of the new Elitist Epi Byrdlands and having it replated. That is all they really need!

Well, I guess I will search for a real lefty, although I would never be able to afford one. Thanks for your help.

I think, after looking at some photos, that I like the Bigsby horsehoe style trem. And since they actually exsist (although at a high price) it seems like the way to go. Does anybody know of a place to get the lefty Bigsby for less than $200 or so? One more thing, if I did get the Bigsby, would it at least cover the old tail piece holes, or will they be visible?

you know what would be cool? taking on a blank vibrola, getting the Lightning Lyre logo that the Angus Sig. Lyre engraved, and then just engraving the Gibson logo below the lighting lyre logo. a suped up original! Thats what Im gonna try to do as soon as I get my Standard.

I am also considering doing that as well. Go to some Jewery shop/ Shoe repair engraving shop? But I was thinking copying the Gibson tailpeice was try hard, so maybe a custom pic with my name on it... Better order from allparts soon!
