Here's mine - It's a custom painted Fender American Special body (by Rowyco) with one of my favorite Strat necks from a 2001 Dbl Fat Strat. Pickups are Rumpelstiltskin Pre-CBS with a hot 10.5k bridge pickup that has a Tele base plate. I think it might be my favorite Strat ever, and I've had a few.
Very little left now since my Florida buying agent had a rummage about in it ;-) Not another Strat :-(
Very nice, lockbody. Love the sparkling purple. So, what does the Tele base plate add to the bridge pups performance?
Thanks! I guess it would have been more accurate to say Tele-style baseplate for the bridge pickup. Basically, a baseplate changes the magnetic field beefing up the tone. Usually more low-end and more highs and a little added "twang". It turned out to be a great addition to that 10.5k Rumpelstiltskin pickup, which, like many hot Strat pickups, would have been darker and more mid-focused. All I know is Jason at Rumpel is a genius and every one of his pickups I've put in a guitar has been spectacular. Here's an article on baseplates: https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/beefing-up-single-coils-1
I tried that on my Squier CV Strat 50's that has a weak bridge pup. It helped define it ... a little.
Here's mine, 2012 select Great player & I really like the pickups in it. I also have this cheap squier Not sure what model it is other than its Chinese, but it has a surprisingly good neck that supports a low action. Humbucker is a 16k ohms, A5 JB ish type. This is a good guitar to take to drunken jams/parties etc as I don't have to worry about it getting knocked around. And it kicks arse. Cheers
It came like that or it's a retrofit pickguard ? Killer looks ! Is it just me, or the fretboard seem to have a 6" radius ?
Thanks sysco, it has a flame maple cap on an alder body. They've sprayed a dark redish color lightly around the outer edge before putting the clear on to create a burst effect. Nitro, though it doesn't have the nice Gibson smell. The neck is also figured fretboard has rolled edges & 9.5~14" compound radius. Pickups I cant find out anything about other than that they were specifically wound for the selects. Cheers
Thanks Dr, its an Allparts retrofit that I added to fit the humbucker. Original (SSS) was single ply white. You can see its only got a few screws holding it down as the other holes didn't line up & I didn't want to drill it. Now that you mention it, in the pic the radius does look small, though I think its an illusion (phone pic). I've tried to capture the radius here It was a pawn shop find & someone has removed the headstock labelling & crookedly added a Fender Stratocaster transfer. The pawn shop didn't try to pass it off as a strat & it was very cheap. Cheers Edit; It also has some "Gotoh" tuners fitted, non locking, with a single screw mount (similar to Grover's). With the single screw fitted into the lower hole from the originals, the tuner paddles are now angled slightly towards the end of the headstock. Doesn't affect functionality though. Cheers
Mine's a early 90's Strat Plus, but had the electronics replaced by the previous owner (current pickups are Fender TexMex). My first and only Strat, so I have little to compare it to, but I like it. Nothing else sounds quite like a Strat. I obviously changed the plastics; the black on black with maple fretboard is my favourite Fender look
A friend of mine has an '05 American Standard, Maple board, H-S-S, with the TexMex pups for the single coils. I really like them. Nice looking Strat, and very tasty and sweet lead on that video clip...
Thanks man!!! Yes, the TexMex sound great, I'm not in a hurry to replace them. And that's weird on me
A little late to the party. Here's the only strat I own (aside from some super strats). '07 floral '69 reissue with some Texas specials all around
Squier Stagemaster 7 string by NomeX posted Nov 17, 2017 at 11:58 AM Just picked up this 7 String last weekend. Needs a new nut. 2000's Fender Strat Deluxe MIM by NomeX posted Nov 17, 2017 at 12:01 PM This has been my main Strat ever since I discovered I really liked 12" Radius maple necks (from my Sterling Silo3). 12" necks lead me back to my 1981 LP, which lead to my 2013 Gibson Future Tribute SG, and then to my Epiphone 1966 RI G-400.
Just got this yesterday. Got an xtra switch (button) that bring in the bridge pup in positions 4 and 5. Four gets you all three pups and five gets you bridge and neck.
