Well, I saw an ad for the Les Paul Vixen, the first Gibson made specifically for girls. And in the last Sam Ash catalog I saw they have a new line..."Carly"...for girls. And of course Daisy Rock is a runaway success. Pack it up guys, in western civilization our time at the top is over.

It hasn't been cool to be a white male since the late 1970's.

Actually, that isn't quite true. If you go by television commercials, us white males are "kinda" cool. According to them, we're comic relief characters: bumbling, dumpy idiots who blow up grills and break or screw up everything we attempt to fix or use because we're too busy trying to use the latest "hip" lingo or do the latest dance craze badly. It's fun at the end because the wife & kids look at Dad like he's a complete imbecile.

    Heh, he is. ;D

As for "girl" guitars, why must that be so? what defines a "girl guitar"? Whats wrong with just playing a regular old SG? or why does it have to be marketed as such, why couldnt I get an SG Goddess? (well, I could, but people are gonna look at me funny. besides, I just accidentally dyed my hair Heritage Cherry Red.) My brother almost bought a Daisy Rock guitar until he figured out that the headstock was butterfly-shaped.

Eh, I dunno, I shouldnt be making waves... I just dont really see a need for distinct gender stereotypes. (In other words, I was always picked on for not being "manly" enough in school..well, what could be more so than playing guitar?)

"Girl" guitars are kinda sexist, I think...I always played whatever my dad had lying around the house; more often than not his old Mustang. I'm sure they're only doing it because there's a market, but I'd hate to see the demographic they're catering to...*shudders*

On that note, you know what I hate? Going into a guitar store and getting the "girl in a guitar store!" look from employees. There was this place in my old hometown I went into one day, and this 20-year-old with multiple piercings was giving me the "OMGZ UR A CHICK" attitude from start to finish. You know..."Here's the button that turns the amp on, this knob makes it louder..."

Yeah, I pretty much just walked out. With the immortal line "Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to turn the amp off, me being a girl and all."

    Jerk.

their demographic? little annoying 12 year old pink girls (im sorry, people that obsessed with pink scare me).
And I saw in either the Seattle Times or the PI a while back an article on "suburban goth" and the fashion obsessions associated with the suburbs. The cover photo for the article was a 16 year old Federal Way girl dressed in the typical suburban goth fashion in Limited Too, which was her favorite store according to her quote. Go figure.
(I was also sick of being called "emo" and thus being stereotyped because I wear glasses. kids are stupid.)

Luckily the people at the Tacoma Guitar Center are friendly to everyone unless you make trouble. My friend didn't want to buy an instrument cable, so he tried to hook up a telecaster to an amp using a 3 foot phone cable, ended up dropping a Telecaster on my foot and getting nasty looks from the staff. But I know what its like...People never know my age because I dress like I am 30 but I once got a haircut that made me look about 13, and every store clerk watched me like a hawk for weeks, or acted like I was a total idiot and had no idea what I was doing.

Two words, my dear aged sire...

    FLAMING. SPANDEX.

I wouldn't go mocking me for the way I look, Mr. "I Spent the Eighties Trying To Look Like Paul Stanley." ;D
