My son Kevin likes the lynch mob a lot and van halen too, so I altered up one of my strats with a screamin demon pickup, allparts 12" radius birdseye maple neck, which he tintened and clear coated, custom made pickguard, volume and tone control.

this thing sounds awesome for real

Sweet EVH style axe. Now all you have to do is install an original Floyd Rose, put a 'Gibson' logo on the headstock and age it until it looks lke something you'd throw into the garbage, and it will truly be an 80s era shredder.

I don't like to play a 7-1/2" radius neck so I redo all my stratocasters to a compund radius where they get to about 12" at the 12th fret. that way it chords easy at the nut and plays like my gibsons at the bridge end.

In order to do real big bends without fretting out out you need a flatter radius.

there was nothing wrong with the original neck, but I prefer the new neck,

My grandfather had a '63 strat neck on a later body, 7.5" radius, and the action on that thing was about a mile off the board so he could get the good bends without fretting out. One of the best things Fender has going right now are their "classic player" strats - older style materials with newer player-friendly changes.

pick guard looks cool on that guitar, esp for a younger person. Anything that helps them get motivated about playing is a good thing. ;)
