I bought this 61 reissue in Spring and swapped a few things to make it resemble Angus's most recent number 1 - the early 60s black SG. Used some Creamtone plastic, 30 degree pointers, witch hat knobs, black switch tip and had a black leather strap made paired with the old round Dunlop disk locks. All electronics are stock. Angus's number one has seen a few different modifications so I used the version from Premier Guitar's rig rundown. If I were to swap pickups I would probably go with the SoloDallas T-Tops. I know the Seymour Duncans are in Angus's black SG but I think Fil does great work and like that sound. Any thoughts or additional info on the original guitar are welcome.

I wanted a screamer to add to the collection. Not so much because of Angus, but more so the hot pickups. I like a small neck. But this thing is so small. Unless you are playing straight up rock lead, or power chords. The neck on this thing may not be what you're after. Bot I do love the heat in these pickups.

That’s perfect Nate, I love it. Gibson could pull that off easy and have another signature model, but I hope they don’t. Let’s guys like you play around and make something special.

I have a soft spot for all Guitars that are Angus approved. I have a (small) row of guitars to get my DC out. I would be proud to have that one right along side them

Ive got a 2013 Standard that looks just like it, currently my favorite. Stock pickups in mine are 57 Classics. :yesway:

I could be wrong, but I don’t think the 2013 standard has the Abr-1. Or the wide headstock. Beauty guitars none the less, and a great year in general for the SG

Angus has a 6th pickguard screw just under the bridge PU. You'll need to add that extra screw.

Wow. Never noticed that. I probably won't go to that level of detail on mine but pretty cool to know. Thanks.

Great project.. looks great.. Seems Angus makes small changes over time.. like the white poker chip of years back.. When you think of T-Tops.. please give a look to Craig Vineham in Canada.. Look for the 6070 Classics where the neck and bridge were actually the same resistance (7.8k, 7.8k) (same pickup) as they were in the day. I put a pair on my 1976 and it sings.. Craig works the oil fields and I had dropped him a note and he asked me if i could wait 4 weeks until he returned home.. and they were FANTASTIC.. and CAD 170 + $ 10 for nickel covers (about $ 150 USD for set).. was perfect.. he is a master.. If you want a little more UUMPH.. like the SD versions.. go for the 6070 SET.. (not classics) where the bridge is about 8.8k. Have a look and they have some vids on YT as well. Cant say enough about them.. makes all kind of pickups as well.. Loyal ACDC following in that part of Canada.. as well look up Dr. Dan amplifiers.. he will make you a JTM 50 Blakc Flag hand wired with PPI master if you like.. killer sounds.. (vineham.com)

Beautiful! Go also for a cream switch chip and tip, the cheapest you can find like Angus always did. Also you can place a good set of Tonerider alnico II humbuckers for a true roaring vintage tone.

What did you use to upgrade the Nashville with Gibson ABR-1 one ?
