I am mostly done with my 64 special Iommi replica. here are the specs... 64/65 gibson special refinished/routed for buckers/headstock repair maybe? grovers, badass bridge, calibrated bareknuckle pig90 set(really hot p-90s) I plan to take it apart and fine tune some stuff but it is playing so nice and sounds very nice with the band(gotta crank up the noise reduction threshold for thoses pig90s tho!) btw I made the pickup surrounds outta the back of an old computer chair in my attic... only thick plastic I could find around the house... packrat success! anyway heres some more pics! http://www.adios-gringo.com/TI_REPLICA.HTM
thanks guys... It really does have some mojo or something... the neck-- although it has the dreaded narrow 1.5" nut- has an awesome shape/contour and fretboard. I think I may have to keep it. I am thinking about looking for another 64 special though while they are still affordable!! Once I am more comfortable with refinishing and stuff and get my shop built I think I will try to copy the bevels/contours of Tony's. How bout the decal... I think it's sorta cool at least until I decide how to do Tony's monkey fiddler. Its a Frank Kozik bunny. My only real gripe is that sg's in general look to damn small on me... I need to lose some weight and shrink about 6 inches in height. btw Mr. Wayne - what do you sting yours with--- 8's? I have 10's on it (my normal) and it still feels slinkier than my other axes... gonna try 8's though I think it is key to Iommi tone. I'm gonna post a video or something soon... =)
ahem ahem... cough err welcome to the board i know how you feel. the very first thing our drummer says when he saw me with an SG the first time is "that is a small guitar" ever since i have been self conscious about that but then again i am the bass player and he's used to seeing that big lumber slung over my shoulder
Great job! i really like the idea of a tribute guitar, get to mix your favorite specs with iommi's. Great job on the surrounds too!

Done. I was never a sweets kinda guy. (I'm sweet enough already!) I'm a carnivore. I love animals - dead ones. Meat, meat, and more meat with the occasional beer. The Atkins diet? I've been on that for 40 years. Even 75 pounds ago I looked silly with an SG. My wife, the Kindergarten teacher, says I look like a bear at a tea party. Neo

I'll be at Sams Club this weekend buying Geritol in the economy size 5 gallon bucket. Back to the SG thread! Mods Note: Folks, As usual this topic has gone off it's original intent. If we can't keep the topic on course it will be closed.
O0 Looks Great !
Yeah, but he hasn't got a pair of original John Birch pickups like yours Lou. It's a pity I don't have some more laying about the house. I could do some great deals with Iommi fans desperate to have an original spec SG and gain some useful items in the process.
I would love some of those birch pups... but I dont think he ever had humbuckers in "the monkey." I think it was always p-90s of some sort...like a gibson p90 with a birch cover in the bridge and a custom wound birch p90 in the neck... right? LOU's is obvoiusly a little more accurate and alot more work went into his...I think he did an awesome job. but I am happy for now... I do want to do a little work on the bevels/contours when I get my shop going....that and make an oversize sg that makes me look like Angus. ;D
