[/b]I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, I want to get into home recording, We have a musical family and I'd like to be able to record Guitar, Banjo, Flute, Vocals and hand percussion, I"d like to be able to turn this into CD or Cassete .The problem is this I know nothing about it, I'm hoping someone could tell me what sort of bare essentiels I will need to do this and how many hundreds of dollars I have to spend ?, I"m assuming I want 8 track capability Do I also want to be able to interface this stuff with my computer ? If so why and what sort of costs does this add, even a good link to an informational site would be helpful. Thanks

This is one of my main hangouts:

http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/

You can get all the recording info you'll ever need there. In general, the best way to start these days is on a PC. There are standalone digital units, there is still reel to reel tape, but the PC is the cheapest and easiest way to get started. Just read around at that site and you'll learn as much as you want to about it.

ess- just a friendly note. Be careful giving out WAREZ sites, it can get the admin here in trouble for linking to them. It is illegal, you know? Plus they are nototious for being virus and spyware filled sites. When I was a network admin, I had to deal with the problems they created every single day.

Check out the Tascam 788. Makes amazing quality recordings. Add the CD burner, and you're set.

Easy to get up and running right away. 24 bit hard drive recording. Has many excellent features. Too many to list here.. It's an 8-track unit that has been around a while. You can get them new for around $500 even though they were originally around $1400.

I had one. Sold it. And will pick up another before they stop selling them.

Small, portable. And best part, there is a forum for users that has a lot of users there to help with any questions.
