Hey-o,

I'm a lefty trying to find my first SG at what seems like an awkward time.

About me: been playing for 20 years (oh god), mostly a Tele fan. I've got an LP100 that I've modded into a real screamer, and a handful of other budget guitars. All lefty, mostly SX.

Something about the SG is calling to me. I played one for about five minutes (possibly a 310?) a few years back and it felt great but for some reason the obsession didn't pop until a few weeks ago.

It's looking like slim pickings for lefties these days, but I should start a thread about that elsewhere.

Oh yeah, and I'm a tube nut. Built one amp from a kit, designed and built two from scratch, and modded a few others. Working on fixing up a Fender PA100 into a 4-channel Twin head without tremolo (or a Bassman head with reverb) and still tweaking a 135W Twin for my own nefarious uses. Gonna try bias-modulation tremolo in that one...

I have been looking at the kits but I'm suspicious of their quality and even more suspicious of my terrible woodworking skills. Haven't seen any reviews of the <$150 kits, but I'd be replacing everything except the neck and body so as long as they're cut right it's tempting.

That ebay G-400... No idea what that guy's thinking. A strap, a capo, and a cracked nut don't add up to $20 over list to me.

There are still a couple new SGJ-13's out there lefty. If everyone could just... not... sell them... for a couple months... :run:

That 60's tribute looks really nice, but $550 or so is probably going to be my max budget. That might even be pushing it, but we'll see.

Welcome Brother!

I just built my first one from a kit, it's on this thread:

http://www.everythingsg.com/forum/luthiers-corner/23246-my-new-build-sg-ish.html

HIGHLY recommend Precision Guitar Kits if you go for a kit. High quality and the woodwork is all done for you. My first try at gluing in a neck and finishing- it went without a hitch.

I found my first SG on ebay, it had been badly broken up and well repaired, it has the mojo and that special something. I took a chance on it and got lucky.

I also have an Epiphone G-400 that has a Bigsby, but other than that it doesn't have that special something.

They're out there- good luck!

Welcome! Good luck in finding your SG. You certainly won't be the first left player out there!
