I use 11s but I wouldn't call a person that plays 9s a sissy. Having those teeny strings cut through your fingers like razor blades when you bend 'em is not for the faint of heart. :-X I would put 9s on a guitar that was up in years to save the neck but no other reason for me.
Should grab a set of Dunlop .10-.52's. I put a set on my SG,. Very rockin set of strings! the fat .52 can be a little hard to play with and get into tune but other then that very good strings!
9's are better for speed solo's and sweeping i've been told.
They're not nececarilly better, but its easier to shred with less tension on your strings because you don't have to press as hard. For instance Yngwie uses .008s tuned down a half step.

Finally, the Rock has come back to.... Wait, that's a different thing. Finally, I have my SG home! I was finally able to drop the last of what I owed on it and brought her home yesterday! I'm so jazzed! And finally, I've got pictures! And, this will be the last time you have to see the word "finally" in this post!!! My smallish armada. Yes, that's the piece of strat over on the right, and my Alvarez sweety on the chair. Dig that grain man! Reminds me of fire. Nary a spec of dust or fingerprint(yet). Can you dig it brothers!
I have to read all the posts, but figured i'd add my 02. I had the faded for two years now and changed the picups to 57s. Like everyone else proobably said, use it for awhil then keep the neck pu and get a killer pridge pu - the faded is great for swapping pickups. DiMarzios are my personal favorite for harder stuff, even Sabbath. Something to think about. But good luck with it.
