I just traded for a 2002 SG Standard. It came by UPS yesterday and I got to spend about one hour playing before having to scamper off and MC a huge fund raiser in our city. Today, I'll be going over her in detail, making adjustments and setting her up... can't wait to get started! I'll post pics a bit later.

I'm 46 and have been playing for about 28 years. I've owned about every guitar you can imagine and keep drifting back to Gibsons... not the best quality control, but there's not another neck out there that matches it for me. I play twice a week in a rockin' worship band/team that covers a ton of styles and has a song list of over 350 tunes. Talk about stretching my musicianship... but I love it. My son, 27, is a fabulous drummer and guitarist and also leads our worship team. Makes me proud.

I thought I would participate on this forum and get to know more about the SG series. This is my first SG and I must say, so far so good! I play everyday... it's cheaper than therapy... well, actually, now that I think about it, maybe not :). My wife of 15 years is amazing and loves that fact that she married a guitarist. Her and I are looking at some PRS's and will be preparing to dive into that world in the very near future. Enough for now. I look forward to getting to know some SG die hards and learning more about this fine instrument.

Here's a starter pic:

Nice pic of a nice guitar. Welcome to ESG! :)

Nice to see another "devil horned" guitar used in church. I've played a '70 SG Standard and an '03 '61RI in church myself. My '00 VOS Standard will most likely be used there as well.

Are you sure that's a 2004 model? I ask because of the earlier case and the ABR-1 bridge. I think that the "SG" truss rod cover was on earlier models as well. If it's an '04 the first numbers of the serial number would be 0###4###.

Here's what I found out about my 2004 SG Standard:

Your guitar was made at the
Nashville Plant, TN, USA
June 7th, 2002
Production Number: 127

Not a problem for me. The guitar plays great. I don't think the prior owner knew it was an 02'. Thanks for the info!
