*short version: stoked to once again own a ‘61 reissue from 2005 and happy to own an SG again, scroll to pictures below! *long version: It’s been a journey, but a fun/self discovery type of journey haha. Several years ago I picked up a 2005 ‘61 reissue in a trade and she has been one of the few guitars I truly regret I’ve sold. Since then I have traveled down a few rabbit holes and have discovered my love for Jazzmasters, specifically early 90’s MIJ Fenders, and have recently been missing the 57 classics, slim tapered neck, oversized headstock, and everything the ‘61 reissues from 2005 brought to the table. So of course I had to start lurking. As we all know, while it is sometimes thrilling, buying and/or trading without playing is always a gamble but after a few months of poking around and coming across one in same exact year a few days ago, well, it felt a bit more like the timing was just right...or at least that’s what I tell myself haha
That one is certainly a KILLER reissue. Throw in double ring tuners and a maestro and you've got a first class DeLorean ride to the 1960s. I like the '61 inspired models. Owned a 2012 Faded '61RI but after I bought it I really disliked the raw unfinished wood feel. It also had a baked maple fretboard, which didn't feel like rosewood, though it wasn't exactly bad. It would be too expensive to refinish it and put on all the bling for a period-correct instrument, so I sold it eventually.
Congrats, what a beauty! Love the ‘61 Reissue. 2005 was a good year, two of my favorites were born that year.
The faded Gibsons are sort of "budget" versions though they can be entirely cool instruments. Anyway I liked what I bought with the money I got for it better.
Congrats, Bro.! SG's are soo BAD-A$$...THAT ANGEL WING P.G. is where its at...... for me and an SG, the '64's specifically because of the neck joint, but '61 - '63 are KILLERS too...... is the Bridge a '57+ ? KEEP ROCKIN' !!!
