I managed to get this NOS 2011 SG Standard Guitar Center exclusive in Honeyburst. Honeyburst is very similar to natural burst but has subtle differences. This is listed as a slim taper but this one seems to be in between that and a rounded profile. This is the lightest and also most resonant SG I've ever had. I suspect this one, like the others in this series, has the BB1 and BB3 pickups but I haven't looked under the hood yet, it just arrived a few hours ago. It's pretty outrageous and completely flawless. I seem to have a knack for stumbling on to unused specimens of yesteryear.

Very pretty finish. Does it play as good as it looks?

Thank you! I haven't done a real setup yet but so far it plays great. I'm able to get the action pretty low and it doesn't have any wolf tones or dead spots. I used to think the heavier SG's were the ticket but now I'm thinking these featherweights are the ringers.

You may be right about that. My SG is also very light and resonates very strongly while unplugged. Unamplified it is even louder than my ES335 hollowbody copy, so pretty significant levels of resonance in the basic structure.

Congrats, very nice! The SG in my avatar is 2010 GC exclusive with the same specs, but with an ebony board and coil taps.

The wood is amazing .. the stain works so well with the bat wing . never crazy about open coils but these creme/Black on the HoneyBurst looks so complete

Nicer fretboard than your typical SG Standard of current production. Nicer all around.

WOW, SWEET AXE ! Congratulations !

IDK if I’ve ever seen a Standard without Pick-up covers, but as an GC exclusive, anything is possible....that finish reminds me of my Special that lacks covers as well, just slightly lighter: AWESOME.

the SG Standards w/Batwings have had the Rounded profile necks since the early ‘90’s, IIRC.....but Alzheimers and Alcohol can get things kinda cloudy, LOL ! I find its usually the Angel-Wing SG’s that have the S.T. Neck profiles.

This post reminds me to check all the on-line retailers like AMS & ZZOUNDS etc, they seem to always come up with really interesting ‘Exclusives’ which can end up being one-offs.......time for another SG, and a find like this is what is called for !

once again, Congrats, ROCK THAT BAD-A$$
