1st post, never gave SGs much of a thought until searching for a project. I ended up finding this one for $150 with the case. Previous owner said the neck pickup "was broken and would only work randomly". I figured worst case scenario id replace some components...got it home wiped all the dust and crud off, blew out the switch and everything works perfectly, I've quickly become a fan...

$150 with a case, lucky son of a gun. Can you tell what year it was made? Does it have the current Alnico Classic Pro pickups?

If it says "SG Pro" on the truss rod cover it's a '66 G400 Pro and should have the Alnico Classic Pro pickups. If it simply say"SG" then it's a '66 G400 and will have the Alnico Classic and Classic+ pickups.

Welcome to ETSG, and congratulations on getting a great deal.
That Epi looks great, and the case is worth half what you paid...
better than a gig bag, way better.

Several times I have bought a used guitar, and looked it over
carefully, trying to figure out why the guy would sell it...
...so I could fix that and move on.

Many 'players' would never turn a screw, or open the back of their
guitar, or what. Just buy it, and attempt to play it, and sell it, and
write a cry-baby review. Go buy another one. Rinse... Repeat...

They make our day, don't they? Buy a fine instrument at an advantageous
price, figure out what minor niggling problem caused the old owner distress,
put that right and then rock that sucker.

I love it when it works. *grins
After I buy a used guitar, I usually strip it down and clean it thoroughly.
Get all the old dead punk skin & grease off the fretboard... In this process, I check
everything, looking for what might have caused the old owner to get rid
of it.

If it's something simple, that's all to the good.

I have the same guitar. I really like the neck on my 66. It is actually beefier than the slim taper necks. Great for sustain and bending.
