    Hi all,
So you may have seen my previous thread that I had sadly had to cancel my custom Jaydee SG Junior order, and instead pulled the trigger on the new Harley Benton SG Junior copy.

it arrived today, I ordered it Wednesday last week, so transport situation hadn’t helped delivery.

Anyway, initial thoughts compared to my Gibson SG Junior 60s model from 2012…

    Good points
Looks really nice, the offset shape actually is growing on me quite a lot.
Finish is really nice. Trans cherry looks great.
Pretty nice grain on the mahogany, only two pieces in the body that I can see!
Neck is a nice c shape, a little chunky in a nice way.
Nut is graphite and seems good.
Tuners work well, was almost in tune out of the box.
    No scratches or dings anywhere.
Action was ok, a little on the high side but perfectly playable.
Fret ends are nice for the most part.
Fingerboard looks and plays really nice.
3 ply scratch plate is nice.
    String alignment is all good.
    Bridge seems good quality.
    Pickup sounds nice.

    Not so good points:
A couple of slightly rough fret ends and frets could do with a bit more polishing.
Bridge is leaning/bridge posts are leaning. Not sure which or maybe both.
Pickup is a long way from the strings and therefore QUIET!
Tuners have very small buttons and are not perfectly aligned.
Some fret buzz (nothing a good set up won’t sort).
Volume pot not solidly fixed to the wood, slight play when fully up or down.
Tone pot only actually does anything for a tiny amount of play, it’s basically all up or all down.

I’m amazed honestly at the quality of this guitar. The negative points are really nitpicky, especially for a guitar that only cost £152 delivered to my door!

Here’s some pics with the Gibson for comparison.
The Harley Benton is about 5mm thicker than the Gibson and therefore a bit heavier. Closer in weight to my Epiphone SGs.

    Cheers,

    Grizz

I wish they had a store in the USA. Shipping is like $100.

Yeah that sucks a lot. I think they need to sort out their distribution in the US properly. A US distribution centre would be a good idea. Not sure how cost effective though.
