As you may know I put the Pelham Blue SG Special up for trade a few days ago. I didn't receive any really interesting trade offers but a lot of people wanted to buy it. I ended up selling it for almost as much as I paid for it new. Insearch of a SG Standard I took a trip to the local music store where I played a 2011 STD that I really liked but they wanted $1600 for it, that's $300 more than a brand new would cost.

Today I had an errend to the neighbouring town, where my favorite music store is so I decided to pay them a visit. As I walked in I noticed that the place was packed with people, no social distancing there! The first thing that came to my mind was "oh no, not another bankruptcy clear out", as we lost two other music stores last year. This one is now the only one left in town to serve 300.000+ people. It turned out that it was just a regular Saturday.

They had a brand new SG Std for $1800 (online stores sell them for $1330) and they had a used 2011 Std for $1100. I went for the 2011 and tried it, it played and sounded really well, had almost no fret wear, only a few minor dents and what looks like a rosewood fret board. To make a long story short it followed me home. The price was far from great as there was no case to go with it but they included a crappy $40 gig bag. On top of that the truss rod adjusting key I bought (as I no longer have one) turned out to be the wrong size.

All in all I'm really happy, the price was high but they have given med unbelievably good deals on my trade ins in the past plus I got to play the guitar before I bought it rather than buying one untried on line.

This one has none of the annoying issues the Special had and not even a tendency to neck dive.

Very nice grain and color on that one! Congrats.

Is that a 70s Strat in your profile pic? I love the large headstock CBS Strats -- I have an ash 70s Classic I bought new a couple of years ago.

    5/16" About $7.00 from Ebay
BTW it looks like your Nashville bridge is swapped around 180° degree. Screws usually face the tailpiece.

Thanks! The one they gave me was 1/4".

You're right, the bridge is backwards, I didn't notice it until you mentioned it. Is there a reson someone would do that on purpose? The intonation is spot on as it is now so the intonation must have been set with it on backwards. Reaching the screws must have been a pain in the behind

I feel I need a Standard with a Batwing pickguard too. I don't want to say that is your fault but...........it's your fault!

Well, there might be. Does it seem the saddles have been switched around? The notch sizes might tell you. As long as it's intonated and plays well, I wouldn't worry about it, but you might ask next time you're at a shop with a repair department.

It plays really, really well. I'll have to check the saddles later, I'm not really the worrying kind :ohno:

I do all my guitar work myself and usually don't take them in for anything, I'll just leave it as it is :)

My girlfriend thinks that my guitars are either ugly, stereotypical or clichès but the SG is "kinda nice".

I noticed, for some reason Epi guitars have the screws facing the neck while Gib's face the lower Strap button.

    Very iconic looking SG.

Regarding the Nashville bridge installed backwards, I can see in the photo that the notches are too big for the treble strings. When you flip the bridge around to the correct direction, the notches will then be matched to the correct string size.

The intonation should be fairly close to what it is now after you flip the bridge since the the saddles are arranged like stair steps and will have a symmetrical layout when flipped the other direction.
