hes not talking about the neck joint hes talking about the neck under the nut.im no guitar tech but from what i've read and stuff just keep playing it till it breaks then repair but be extra careful and u should probably go to lighter strings.

I didn't even know they made a satin black sg special. I thought all the black ones were gloss and the satin ones were either brown or red. My son has a gloss black sg special and has played it hard for 3 years with no issues.

Is it a neck(wood) crack or a paint crack?

Gibson needs to do something about this. They have to come up with a better solution to make them more sturdy. Accidents are going to happen. The guitar needs to be a little more resistant to neck cracks.

They DO make something to fix accidents, and that is... THE WARRANTY! ;)

    GOOD NEWS!

You've gotten me scared enough to register for a Gold Warranty For My SG on Gibson.com and it all checked out! I saved My records in 3 different ways.

    So HA! :D

It WILL break if he keeps trying to tune it and puts tension on the headstock.

Depends on the break. The wood will sometimes join up nice when glued properly.

If done under warranty, Gibson will send you to an Authorized Repair Center in your area.

I've seen some horrible looking train wrecks turn out very well.

I'm gonna make some of you young guys mad here, but I wonder...
My stepson had a headstock crack BAD on his LP Special Faded. Never completely broke, and was repaired in Phoenix. Works great. A few others I've seen in the last couple years were Faded or Specials

So, are the Gibsons destined for cheaper finishes the ones made with less than perfect wood? Why do I never see high end Gibsons break unless something HAPPENS to them?

Do these young guys not store them properly since many can't afford a hard case?
Do they just not pay attention to what the hell they're doing? Kids are kids, ya know.
    Can't help but wondering.

I baby the hell out of my guitars, maybe my day is coming too, I dunno.

    Neo
