I was at this concert at the Agora in 2010. Frank Marino played three sets in one day for a total of over 12 hours of rock, blues and jazz inspired tunes. Frank does not get the recognition he deserves. Gibson had announced a Frank Marino Tribute SG several years ago, that unfortunately never came to fruition. Great tone from his extremely modded SG.

He transformed that SG into a unique guitar. A very brave mod! I like his sound too. At the first look, this mod can seem like blasphemy. But he successfully transformed the guitar for his needs.

I had the chance to do the opening of Mahogany Rush at my high school in ... 1971 I think. We finished our set with Purple Haze, he started his with the same. He killed us. A great moment in my short musical career.

Frank Marino, a very underrated guitar player, certainly deserved more critical acclaim and commercial success than he enjoyed. Still, a great great guitarist who did some great magic with the SG!

Here's a photo of his guitar that I found online. Very stratocaster like butI don't know what the fourth knob is (maybe discrete knobs for tone for each pickup, or maybe a blender to let you blend the pickups in to different levels?)

Surprising the tones he was getting out of it in the video above, I'd not have expected basically an SG modified into a strat would have produced them.

I don’t know who’s more bored. His band mates or the audience...?

Some nice technical playing for sure, but lacks the energy, enthusiasm and infectious spirit that I Persia lily crave from a live show.

What a totally dick move on his part.

So besides being a "2 million meaningless gnat notes"
guitar player he's also an a$$hole.

I was at the Fillmore East when Mahogany Rush
opened for Ten Years After.
Marino tried to finish his set with a Hendrix-like version
of the national anthem and got bood off the stage.

Exactly. As the headliner, he should have changed his setlist at the last minute.

$hitting on this guy’s post is fkn lame. So you don’t dig the player, ok, no need to add more internet hate, just move on.

Robert speaks the truth.
I offer an apology and a promise to try
and be less of an a$$hole in the future.

It wasn't a dick move at all. We did it on purpose and laughed our brains out. BTW, our version was real good.

Misunderstanding here?
I meant a dick move on the headliner's part, not yours.

There.
Now I have both feet in my mouth.

Misunderstanding on your part, maybe bad explanation on mine. You can extract both of those feet out of that mouth of yours.

Missing info: We were there for their sound check and saw the set list. They were gonna start with Purple Haze, so we decided to end our set with it to see if he would rise to the challenge. He did. We didn't expect any less of him than turning on the afterburners. It was just great ...

John and Stevie have something in common.
Stevie is dead and John sounds like he's dead.
