I think you'd better stay with your Classic Player's strat than getting an Epi G400...

like everyone says, be patient and wait for the gibby, thou there are those who do like their eppys. not familiar with your strat to make a comparison.

I`ve been into the shop where i bought it from and the guy had a look and said he`d give £300.00 against an gibson sg for it but they are waiting on a new stock , he told me they were getting faded sg`s for approx £499.00 as he said its better than an epiphone as its a real gibson so it` just a matter of waiting especially as i`ve been told gibson here in the UK have delivery problems at the moment

The Strat may be his main guitar, but he was way better when he was playing Les Pauls, his SG and his ES-335. ;D

Not that I'm agreeing with q-4000-sg guy.

Wasn't Layla with Derek and the Dominos when Clapton was using Brownie, or Blackie, I'm not an authority on the two?

Strats are awesome guitars!, there's really nothing bad about them, except where they put the volume button. lol
When i was a kid I hated them because I thought they sounded kinda thin an anemic when i tried them in the shops. But when I got older and started playing in bands etc. I found that I loved single coils, they cut through the bass guitar just the way I wanted it. The other shocking thing is allot of records that I thought had to been a Gibby or a humbucker. Turned out to be a FAT sounding strat! So really it's more about what amp you use and your effects, and how you set them.

The otherthing that shocked me was when I watched SRV's first recorded performance. I couldn't believe the fat tone he got out of his Strat, it was amazing. Then halfway through the show he switched to a newer red strat. That sounded sooo anemic compared to his vintage one. It really showed me how much different strats can sound compared to each other

Sounds like you're learning more than just guitar playing, like how guitar stores stay in business. I may be a moderator on a SG forum but I wouldn't lose my a** on a good guitar just to buy a SG. Learn on that Strat or find someone willing to trade straight across for a Standard or Special and put some money in a decent amp and you're set!

BTW-I've owned 4 SGs and am now getting the Telecaster that I wanted for my first guitar!

Lot of guys use Strats when they get old. Seems to be like trading in the Porsche for a Cadillac. The Strats are lite and easier the hear. I always thought you were suppose to dance with the one that brung ya!

Haha. In Townshend's case, I don't think he really lost too much in the transition to the Strat. He still plays with as much energy as he used to, and his tone is still quite ballsy. But a lot of guitarists do seem to mellow out later in their career, and the switch from Gibsons to Fenders seems to symbolize that in a lot of cases.

[/quote]i think im going to put an on/off switch where the vol is for the middle pickup, then put two volume/coil taps.
