Well that's almost the way! Can you believe this is the first YouTube lesson I've ever watched?
I love Open G. Have one of my electrics tuned to it all the time and when I feel the urge I bust out some Stones songs. I haven't tried much else but a bit of 'In My Time of Dying' for a bit of slide.
It is interesting how much more 'balls' the open tuning adds to the sound.
Task for the night....get that guit out and look into some Black Crowes.
Thanks for the inspiration folks.
Don't forget this rocker in open G!!
Good one Bro!
I have the same problem with my fingers Frankd. I went to a shop and was "fitted" for a slide; no problems now! I can't say it helped my playing, but it took away any other excuses! It was well worth the $15 to have a good fitting slide though.
Thanks Lineboat .
In my youth I tried everything a way you could think of
and I guess its here I go again.
ZZ Tops "Tush" is also a great open G song.
You might want to try open E as well as DADGAD. Kashmir is in DADGAD. I dig open G. I rip Brown Sugar on it!
Yeah, I think its great as well. Banjo tuning I think. I keep a cheap strat copy tuned to open G, 5 strings ala Keef. (yes I know, it should be a Tele). A lot of stones song are done in this tuning, Honky tonk women, start me up etc. Jumping jack flash was recorded in open D but he plays it live in open G. Taking the low E (or D in this tuning) off is good as it makes the lowest string the root rather than its 5th, as when its left on. Cheers
Yeah it's a common banjo tuning.
I use open G a lot for delta blues. Definitely my favorite slide tuning.
I have a trick playing open G. Tune the thick E string up to G as well. Fattens it up a lot. Sounds cool and you don't need to dampen the E with your thumb.
One of my favorite tunings is GGDGDD. straight to drone heaven!
