By-the way ... although I went with the Lollar P90s on the Washburn (and it rocks) ... I put a Fralin "high output" bridge in my G&L Legacy yesterday. It's a 9.5K 43 wire A5 and makes this Strat-like guitar come alive. A bit beefier bridge pickup really helps this guitar. I had to swap my two remaining G&L pups (neck & middle) to get the right RWRP setup ... but it's rocking too. I've always wondered if the strat-like setups would be helped by a slightly stronger bridge ... now I know. :)
ya they really do help. i got fralin sp 43's in my strat, basically p-90's in single coil form and they are amazing. still stratty but so much power and body. really thick tone. i love em. they clean up nicely too.
I just ordered a set of Fralin P-90s for my SG Classic. I told them to do the neck stock, and overwind the bridge to balance them out. I am also going to have my guitar tech redo all the electronics - pots / caps. I'm open to suggestions as far as the caps go - what I'm looking for is a good vintage, classic rock sound - think Pete Townshend (by the way, today is 2/14, 38th anniversary of the Leeds show :)) I haven't posted much since I got my SG, but I like this guitar much more than many others I have owned recently - including some Historic les Pauls. I have finally found my sound - P-90s all the way!
i ordered 2 lollar p90s but for my elite casino don't have an sg have anothe gig hollowbody model w/hum on. interesting thread tho.
Fine clips Doveman! I used to think Lollars are a bit on the high-tech side, but they definitely don't sound sterilized or sth...
FWIW I put Lollars in my SG Classic along with 500k pots (stock are 300k). The difference was unbelievable! I haven't tried Fralins, so cannot comment. You wouldn't regret buying Lollars, I can assure you of that. Have you looked are Bare Knuckle pups from the UK?
Someone told me recently that if I want to get that late 60's PTownshend SG sound to get the Fralins. I just may do that, but he also suggested changing the pots as well. I may have to bring it to a tech for all this. I dont mind messing around on the inside of my other guitars, but not my classic. I rather give that to someone who really knows what they are doing. good thread!
"Have you looked are Bare Knuckle pups from the UK?" Never heard of em!! ;D ;D ;D coff coff splutter splutter
